Félim Bolster has worked as a teacher, and then an administrator, in the United Kingdom, the Middle East, and Europe. He is currently the Upper School Director at the American School of Madrid. For 11 years prior to moving to Madrid, Félim was the Head of High School at the International School of Brussels, and before that the Secondary School Principal at the American International School in Abu Dhabi.

He has an MBA in Educational Leadership, a Bachelor’s Degree in Science, and teaching qualifications from the UK. Félim has a keen interest in student well-being and how we can, and should, put student well-being at the heart of our approaches to educational leadership. He is a firm believer that, although with positive intentions, we frequently build structures, policies, and processes, that are counterproductive to the goal of positive student well-being. Félim also believes that learning takes place in many different modalities and has an in-depth understanding of the need for flexible learning spaces and flexible learning time. The interplay between learning time and learning space is at the core of the work he does to design optimum learning environments.

As a Senior Educational Consultant for Educational Design International, Félim has led workshops in Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Middle East on this topic. He has a strong belief that by embracing the very best of both educational approaches, schools can achieve great results in the context of producing empathetic, well-rounded, life-long learners, with a deep understanding of their place in the world as positive global citizens. Hailing from Ireland, Félim married Alejandra from Spain and they have two sons, Milo and Conor.
